Process wood products locally

Letters

I ENCOURAGE the Marape Government to stand firm on the call to ban the export of round logs by 2020 onwards and allow all forms of downstream processing of wood based products to take place onshore to meet export market demand. For PNG, the logging companies have been exporting over 88 percent of logs to China annually at a lower value chain.
All processing and exports of wood based products are done within China and exported to the rest of the world.
There were halfhearted ban imposed by previous government.
The logging industry has been riddled by transfer pricing so there has to be some control.
