SOCIAL inclusion is one of the key agendas for the Oceania Football Confederation’s Just Play programme.
The programme, involving people living with disability, in conjunction with Callan Inclusive Education Resource Centre marked the National Day of People with Disability last week.
The event was full of excitement ,with members of the Callan Inclusive Education Resource Centre and staff celebrating the event with the Just Play team.
The participants were enthusiastic in all the activities.
Callan Inclusive Education Resource Centre Sports coordinator Andrew Ase commended the programme for helping his institution celebrate their day.
“We were actually surprised by their visit,” Ase said.
“We did not plan for their coming but it was like God sending the right people to celebrate the day with us.
“The parents and the students were all excited and wish that the programme continues on working with the children and young people with disability.”
“It’s helped with their self-esteem and also helped prevented issues like depression.
Leading the visit was the Just Play operations manager Micah Kaneng.
‘’One of our main objectives is ensuring that we are inclusive,” Kaneng said.
“The Just Play programme is an award-winning sport for development programme using the power of football to improve the lives of children in the Pacific.”
The programme was designed in partnership with the Australian Government, the Football Federation of Australia, the New Zealand Government, UNICEF and the Union of European Football Association (UEFA).
