CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) launched a cricket education programme at Sacred Heart Teachers College at Bomana yesterday, with the aim of enhancing the understanding of the sport among schools.
The programme, known as “Cricket for Good”, will see former PNG representatives providing training to students on the basics of the sport.
CPNG cricket manager Lakani Oala said the training, which will run for nine weeks, was aimed at educating trainee teachers about cricket so that they could pass the knowledge onto their students.
“We want to make sure cricket is taught in primary schools,” he said.
“Through physical education, teachers can spread knowledge on the sport.
“That is why this programme aims to educate trainee teachers on the basics.
“We’ve seen the success of such programmes like the Bank South Pacific school cricket.
“It has produced a number of representative players already.
