Programme ‘worthy investment’

Education

THE New Ireland governor school of excellence programme proved a worthy investment with large numbers of students sponsored through the programme had done exceptionally well.
This was made known during the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Governors School of Excellence graduation held recently.
Governor Sir Julius Chan, who was there for the graduation, noted that a large number of the award winning students, including those getting distinctions in the national exams, were students sponsored by the provincial government.
“This shows conclusively that when we give students from remote areas the chance, they grab it with both hands,” he said.
“I am very pleased at how well our sponsored students have done and this is a big reason we say the further you are, the more we care.”
This year, 28 students from remote areas, including eight boarding students, were funded at a cost of over K350,000 which was a decrease from fifty students last year.
Sir Julius also farewelled Jo Martin, the retiring principal of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart School, who served for four years.
