PORT Moresby’s Active City Development Programme and the Amazing Port Moresby initiatives have been recognised as among the most transformational and impactful initiatives in the world, which sustainably addresses the issues of gender equality and the wellbeing of women and girls in the city.
Programme director Fazilah Bazari has been invited to present at the Women Deliver 2019 Conference – the world’s largest conference on gender equality, health, rights and wellbeing of women and girls, in Vancouver, Canada from June 3-6.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to attend the conference along with Nobel Laureates and other dignitaries.
The conference attracts the greatest minds, strongest activists, and the most progressive leaders from across the globe.
“We are humbled by this invitation to speak at such an important global forum,” Bazari said.
“It shows that Port Moresby is now on the global map of a progressive cities’ transformation agenda, and championing the wellbeing and rights of women and girls.”
“The programme works in partnership with the United Nations Women Papua New Guinea Sanap Wantaim – Behaviour Change campaign and it has been a valuable collaborator in driving youth to be a part of this change.
“Every day I come to teach my classes and every day I come across victims of gender-based violence, perpetrators of violence and people from the streets who are at risk,” Bazari said.
“When you see from the heart, it moves away your fears and propels you to make a difference. I am teaching Yoga and other creative movements so that they can find a light within themselves and to convince them that change comes from within.”
Active City Development Programme Walk and Yoga for Life initiative takes place on Sundays and is led by NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
