VILLAGERS of Labu Tale in Wampar, Huon Gulf will have to relocate when work starts on the K2 billion special economic zone projects – a wharf and an industrial park.
At the village on Saturday were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Commerce and Industry Sam Basil, Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour, Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu and investor AG Investment Ltd which will be funding the project with the Government.
Huon Gulf development authority chief executive Moses Wanga said the projects would turn Labu Tale into a big commercial centre in Lae.
AG Investment Ltd managing director Allan Guo said he would invest K550 million.
“I see that everyone here is happy with the project,” Guo said.
“This will help drive the economy of PNG.
“It will also be an international wharf providing many opportunities to the people.
“PNG is rich in resources and after 45 years, I see that there is not much development in the country.
“We will make sure that there are no under-the-table deals.
“This project will be K1 billion to K2 billion.”
National Fisheries Authority (NFA) managing director, John Kasu who is also from Labu Tale village said they (NFA) would support the project.
“We will work together and I will give my full support for this project,” he said.
