NEW Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Nolis Thomas says infrastructure projects being implemented would provide a boost to the provincial economy.
“There’s a lot of infrastructure development in New Ireland like road construction, sealing of town roads and work on the airport upgrade,” Thomas told The National.
“Business is as usual in terms of government development and private sector. The new Malangan International Hotel is being built at the moment as well as others to start shortly.”
Thomas also highlighted that 2021 was a difficult year for the province with the onset of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“The impact was definitely felt here but business continued,” he said.
“To some extent, it didn’t really impact on business houses although the requirements of wearing masks and social distancing did have an impact on businesses.
“But in terms of individuality with the different business houses, they were able to survive and to a large extent successfully.”
Thomas said there were a lot of challenges faced in the province but the business community remained positive.
