The people of Moresby South will benefit from five new projects worth K14 million, says MP and Minister for Lands and Physical Planning Justin Tkatchenko.
Among the projects is the K4 million 2500-seat Kaugere Stadium which will include a clubhouse, gymnasium, cafeteria, office, VIP area, irrigated turf field and car park.
The other projects are:

  • Koki gymnasium and sporting facilities;
  • Wanigela health centre;
  • Kipo Market at East Boroko; and,
  • Kaugere market.

“All these projects are sponsored by National Capital District Commission, working with me as local MP to ensure we have some of the best facilities,” Tkatchenko said.
“By the time my term finishes in 2022, I hope to have most of the major infrastructure completed like schools, health centre, clinics, water, and infrastructure for our people in the settlements and villages. Hopefully we will have everyone with titles as well.
“It’s a big challenge but with the support of Governor (Powes Parkop) and NCDC, we will make it happen.”
Meanwhile, other projects in the electorate funded with donor support include the water police base supported by Australia and New Zealand, and Butuka-Shenzen School, which is supported by China.
The Butuka-Shenzhen School will have elementary, primary and secondary facilities for 3200 students.
It will be completed by the end of August for Chinese president Xi Jinping to open when he arrives for the Apec leaders’ summit.
