THE student learning improvement plan (SLIP) programme will promote quality education in schools in North Waghi, Jiwaka, primary schools standards officer Gabriel Tai says.

Tai revealed the success of a pilot SLIP programme on Tuesday at St Mary’s Primary School to students, teachers, board members and parents in his internal review report.

He commended teachers and board members for implementing the programme without any problems.

Tai said SLIP was “a baby for eight schools in North Waghi so let it grow and let PNG see it”.

“It is first grown at home before it stretches out to other provinces. No one will give excuses that he or she doesn’t know,” he said.

Tai said the programme was for three years and would be reviewed after that.

He said  it covered six areas – standard learning on curriculum, staff development, school administration management, school infrastructure and school governing or relationship, overall school attainment or results.

“In the past all these wereonly confined to the school board and administration but when the SLIP programme was introduced, it becomes everyone’sbusiness,” Tai said.

“Students, teachers and parents are all managers of the school.”

Dona Primary School headmaster Bernard Awal said he had seen a lot of improvement in his school since the programme was introduced in 2009.
