TWO police officers who allegedly forced a woman to chew and swallow condoms in Port Moresby late last year will appear again in the Waigani Committal Court in two weeks.
Joshua Yawijah, 22 from Maia village in Pangia, Southern Highlands,  and 23-year-old Jacklyn Tanda, of Sakarip village in Wabag, Enga, appeared  yesterday.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar deferred the case to July 13 after prosecution asked for a week’s adjournment to prepare submissions in response to evidence.
Bidar told the prosecution that they needed to finalise the case quickly as it had started in January.
He said more than three months had elapsed and submissions should have been ready by now.
Yawija is facing allegations that on Dec 4, 2015 he forced a woman to chew and swallow two condoms at the Boroko police station while in the company of Tanda and another police officer.
Police alleged that the woman was forced to swallow two condoms after they searched her possessions and found seven condoms on her.
Tanda allegedly recorded the incident which went viral on social media. They were arrested and charged with deprivation of personal liberty, forcing someone to do an indecent act and abuse of office.
Both officers are on a K1,000 bail.
