Prove to people that virus is real

Letters

DO you remember how the world responded to the Covid-19 pandemic?
I remember how people bought food and toilet tissues in bulks to store for a potential outbreak.
People feared that what was happening in Wuhan, China, and other countries might happen to Papua New Guinea or even worse.
The nation went for a two months’ vacation even before any case was reported.
The police used force to control people’s movement.
A first case was reported and people were warned to follow measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.
At the moment we have more than 500 confirmed cases but people don’t seem to care.
Events that attract crowds are happening and people are not adhering to Covid-19 measures.
The only place in Port Moresby that reminds you that the coronavirus still exists in PNG is at Vision City mega mall.
Many want those who contracted the virus to have their experiences published in the media so people understand its severity.
At the moment there is suspicion that the Government is just using the pandemic to draw funds from donor agencies and other countries to use it however it pleases.
The recent political circus by the Loloata and Vanimo camp about two MPs contracting the virus is biggest joke of the year.
People are losing their interest and trust in the Government.
I hope something of substance can instil discipline into the minds of all citizens to adhere to Covid-19 measures.

  • Obedience and hearken to the precautionary and prevention measures are being advice is far more important than being careless and disobey advices (new norm) and paying full penalty for defying orders – getting infected and transmitting Covid-19.
