Provide reliable bus service

Letters

WITH the commencement of the academic year, catching a PMV bus from Boroko to Downtown in Port Moresby is a nightmare.
Buses are either doing a short trip to Koki or taking a direct trip to Hanuabada or Badihagwa Secondary School charging K2 per person via Lawes Road.
It is really frustrating for people working in Downtown.
Regardless of whether you come early at the 4-Mile bus stop, you will still end up late at work.
These are the very people who the Government collect taxes.
We need better public transport service than this.
While every year these complaints have been raised with the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC).
ICCC has done nothing about it or even worked with relevant authorities to ensure such vital service is not hijacked by greedy drivers and bus crews.
With Port Moresby being the capital, we need a bus service that is reliable.
The current arrangement of private public transport is not working anymore.
Governor Powes Parkop, we need you to take the bus service for the good of the citizen of Port Moresby.

Concerned Citizen,
Port Moresby

  • The ICCC should see how Rabaul is running their bus services and develop policies for bus services through out n the country. Rabaul is a good example to look at and the same to be applied in the major cities of Pom and Lae to have a better control monitoring system put in place.. Right now the greedy buses are doing their own thing and charging passengers when there is no formal advice for increase of bus fares. Where are the authorities and the traffic officers that needs to be present through out the day as it is their responsibility.
