Provide staff housing

Letters

I BRING to the attention of the Chief Justice, concerns of housing relating to his staff.
My wife works at the National Judicial Staff Services (NJSS).
During the Christmas Eve after shopping, we were nearly robbed by a group of drunks on our way to our rental home in a well-known settlement in Port Moresby.
The drunks were made known to us later as clansmen of a losing petitioner, who mistook my spouse as a lawyer of the first respondent.
They wanted to take the law into their own hands because they were not happy with the decision of the National Court. My spouse is a senior employee of the NJSS who has nothing to do with the results of the court’s decision.
Before we experience this kind of misunderstanding among fellow citizens and become victims of robbery, violence, bag-snatching and even death, I appeal to the Chief Justice to please take into serious consideration the welfare of all NJSS Staff.
They are always working tirelessly to assist in ensuring that justice is done and peace is restored to our citizens.
CJ, by virtue of the powers vested on you, please increase their housing allowance from the current K250 to an amount reasonably higher so they can find decent homes to rent within city limits, free from muggers, drunks and opportunists?
