Province develops, achieves priorities

WEST New Britain has jumped to second from 21st in the National Economic Fiscal Commission assessment of spending among the 22 provinces according to the Minimum Priority Activities.
The rating is on the assessment of spending according to the budget in ensuring that key priorities for each sector are achieved and development key factors realised.
Administrator Williamson Hosea said it was a great achievement under the leadership of Governor Sasindran Muthuvel who is persistent in seeing that key policies are achieved.
Muthuvel thanked Church-based organisations for role they played in the development of the province.
“It is very vital to build human character before we build infrastructure,” said Muthuvel.
He said almost K300 million was spent on infrastructure in the past four years but this was nothing compared to the value of character building.
“We have to learn to respect our mothers and not undermine their values because that is the first recipe to destroying our nation or any civilisation for that matter,” he said.
“The second means of destroying the country is to disrespect education by damaging our infrastructure and undermining our teachers ability to teach and educate us.
“The third is by undermining our elders and leaders and role models to the point that they lose their value.”
He said the province was glad to have witnessed a record level of growth in the past 10 years.
He thanked donor agencies such as the Asian Development Bank and JICA who had faith in West New Britain.
