Province forgotten

Letters

NORTH Fly MP James Donald has a valid point for the people of not only North Fly but also for South and Middle Fly people.
For far too long the governments both present and past had forgotten our resourceful province.
This province is rich in minerals, oil and gas.
It has more gas fields than any other province and I bet the nation has more potential in attracting global economy.
Western alone could drive this nation with the production of minerals, gold, and copper, petroleum (oil and gas).
The national government has absolutely failed the people of Western by not providing tangible projects, developments and infrastructure to the province.
In this view, yes, the Donald had spent some tough times with his people and if it means putting acts together to form another province if not for autonomy would serve the people of North Fly or Western.
In other words, if the governments have failed the people of Western, yet benefitting from the mining resources and not returning sufficient services in the form of tangible projects, they again push to sign up expansion in petroleum projects.
For instance, P’nyang oil and gas projects, Stanley, Elevala, Yavo and the list goes on.
The government’s focus should have been to least developed provinces, for example, Western rather than wasting time and resources in Port Moresby and other centres.
As a local, I strongly invite elites of Western to work on a moratorium to be placed on our province to allow a maximum of at least three exploration licences at a time for a period of five years before the issuing of further licences.
Otherwise our resources would be depleted.
The trend that we are experiencing now will drive our province to poverty once the resources are depleted.
