ENGA still has more than 300 vacancies for elementary school teachers, says provincial elementary school coordinator Kelly Embo.
He put this down to the increase in student intakes by schools as a result of the Government’s tuition fee-free policy.
Embo said during the opening of a classroom at Kopen village, west of Wabag. The province was using the Enga Teachers College to train more teachers.
Embo said those selected undertook a one-year teacher training at the college, which the provincial government was funding. Elementary teacher training at the college began in 2014.
So far more than 140 had graduated with teaching certificates approved by the Education Department.
He said the bottom line was to train quality teachers to the education standard in the province.
College principal Michael Homingu said the elementary teacher training would continue, with more teachers to graduate this year.
He said teachers who graduated from the college were qualified to teach in any school around the country.
He thanked the provincial government for supporting the training of quality teachers to provide better education to children.
