Province needs more electorates

Letters

I AM from Baimuru in Gulf where the current Papua liquefied natural gas field is about to be harvested by Total SA.
Gulf is big and has a large landscape.
It is almost the size of Eastern Highlands and Chimbu combined, but these two provinces have more electorates than Gulf.
I am suggesting the Electoral Boundaries Commission consider the following electorates to be established in Gulf:

  • KIKORI Open (current);
  • DELTA Baimuru Open (new);
  • WEST Kerema Open (new);
  • CENTRAL Kerema Open (new);
  • KAINTIBA Open (new);
  • EAST Kerema Open (new); and,
  • GULF Regional (current).

Most of the people live in rural areas.
Creating more electorates will benefit them.
Gulf is one the least developed province since Independence.
Most people do not access basic government services.
The annual national budget does not help Gulf because of the huge landmass.
Gulf’s electoral boundaries were not done properly in the colonial and pre-Independence days.
I hope more Gulf people realise this and support this call.
