MILNE Bay has lost its renowned reputation as a friendly, safe province because of the rise in violent crimes, acting Southern Region police commander Chief Supt Rigga Neggi says.
“Milne Bay is now seeing a new trend of crimes with various crimes being committed by organised gangs and is fast becoming a risky place to do normal business,” Chief Supt Neggi said.
“The peaceful and friendly province that once was known for is now changing for the worse by these criminal acts.”
Chief Supt Neggi said police appealed for reliable information from the people on criminals and their activities to help police keep the province peaceful and safe.
“Let us make community safety and security a community responsibility and let us work together to make Milne Bay a peaceful and harmonious community to do our everyday business and enjoy life.”
He said this yesterday after two wanted criminals were recaptured while another died after being shot by police.
The criminals were recaptured with help from the public who provided information on their whereabouts.
Police shot dead wanted criminal Nicholas “Nicho” Robert in the leg at Wakekanasaido village on Ferguson Island, Esa’ala district after a tip off.
He was wanted for sea piracy, armed robbery, rape and arson.
Police also recaptured another wanted criminal Ezra Wilson Menesi dubbed the “Boss” last Sunday.
Menesi was wanted for sea piracy, armed robbery and rape.
Another suspect Dominic “Dome” Keruwaga allegedly involved in sea piracy is in police custody in Alotau after he was captured on March 8.
