Province opens academic year
The National, Tuesday February 9th, 2016
The 2016 academic year in East New Britain was officially opened at the Malaguna Technical Secondary School in Rabaul last Friday.
All schools in the province closed for the day as teachers attended the academic year opening, themed “Year of implementing quality standards”.
Rabaul town mayor Changol Manuai told teachers it was vital to start the academic year with God.
“This will be a very challenging year for all sectors,” he said.
“This year, teachers must implement the standard-base curriculum at elementary and primary schools.
“It will be challenging but I want you to implement the changes with a good heart because it is the wish of many parents. I believe this change will bring quality standards from the beginning right through to our universities.”
Manuai vowed to continue supporting schools in Rabaul district.
“I believe God is with us and he will ensure we finish this year well,” he said.
Teachers from the four districts of Rabaul, Kokopo, Pomio and Gazelle swore an oath to serve well and faithfully as members of the Teaching Service Commission of PNG and to do the right thing to all people according to the law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will.
Pomio district has been given the task of organising the next academic year opening in 2017.
