Province receives timely health boost from India
The National, Friday March 28th, 2014
THE West New Britain government received a timely donation of K381,000 from the Indian government to help the rural health sector in the province.
The money will be used to buy a new ambulance to service the remote areas of Kandrian, Gloucester and Gasmata, on the south coast.
Governor Sasindran Muthuvel thanked the Indian government for the donation.
He said it was the first time for the provincial office to receive direct help from a foreign government.
Acting High Commissioner for India CK Damodaran acknowledged the new relationship and hoped it would continue to help public servants there by offering short-term courses in India.
He said India took up to 30 people annually for courses and would be happy to send public servants in the province.
Damodaran acknowledged the 12 grandmothers from West New Britain and Jiwaka, who were sent to India for six months to be trained as solar engineers.
He said they would be able to light up their villages with the knowledge and necessary materials provided by the Indian government on their return.
