THE Southern Highlands government will pay the remaining K6 million outstanding for its school fee subsidy programme, Governor William Powi says.
He said a K10 million commitment was made and K4 million had been released.
Last year, K10 million was also paid for school fees for students across all levels of education, Powi said.
He said on top of the school fees paid, the 15 high and nine secondary schools had each received funding of between K500,000 and K1 million to improve infrastructures.
“Education is one of the seven key areas my administration is focusing on,” he said.
“I am also doing much to fund existing technical vocational education training (Tvet) centres and work is underway to construct more technical colleges.
“Grade 12 school leavers are also being sponsored at institutions in life skills training to give them a second chance in life.”
Powi said the provincial government was helping educate future elites and teachers had to be committed in teaching while parents should help the schools in community work.
