Provinces establish committees

THE majority of the provinces and districts in Papua New Guinea have established their procurement committees and can procure projects, a senior official says.
National Procurement Commission (NPC) chief executive officer Simon Bole said the districts could procure contracts below K2.5 million while provincial committees had a K5 million ceiling.
He said split projects were not allowed as all districts and provincial projects needed to be awarded to local companies only as this was an NPC requirement to promote and support local companies.
Bole said only West New Britain was yet to request for procurement committee approval.
He said a further nine districts were yet to request for procurement committee approval.
Bole said three provinces were approved by NPC board but awaiting swearing-in were Western Highlands, Gulf and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (Arob).
