Provinces told to cooperate
The National, Thursday February 11th, 2016
PROVINCIAL governments have been advised to cooperate with Works officials in the provinces on emergency restoration work caused by the adverse weather patterns.
Works Minister Francis Awesa said the recent change in weather patterns were causing landslides and flooding.
“We advise the public and provincial government in sections of the highways that are prone to natural disasters like Enga, Eastern Highlands, Madang-Ramu and Northern that emergency restoration work is no longer an option but a priority,” he said.
Awesa said in regards to the recent flooding in Northern that the river courses had changed since the Cyclone Guba in 2007.
Awesa said the new bridges had been designed to withstand extreme weather events such as cyclones and flooding.
