Provincial disaster officials slammed for failure to respond to victims

THE Government’s disaster offices in each province should be active to provide a quick response to help affected people, a disaster victim says.
This was the concern raised by Kaspar Lyambi, a victim of natural disaster in Mt Hagen where he and his family could have been buried by a landslide at Kaunsel Camp in October.
Lyambi said his family escaped death and were waiting for disaster relief from Western Highlands.
Lyambi said he came from Laiagam in Enga and lived almost his entire life in Mt Hagen.
He said that two of his houses with household items were destroyed and this was a real disaster in their lives.
“My two houses were destroyed and I need to maintain them but with the financial situation we are facing – it will take time for me to return to live my normal life,” he said.
“My appeal is to the provincial and district disaster offices to come to my area and confirm what really happened.”
