TWO provincial governments have shown their support for Australia through donations for the bushfire appeal.
The Enga provincial government through the leadership of Sir Peter Ipatas donated K300,000 to the Papua New Guinea Australia Alumni Association (PNGAAA) on Tuesday to help victims of Australia bushfires.
The Government-sanctioned Australia Bush Fire Appeal also received a total of K30,000 from the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) and the Island Mobile Hire Car company (IMHC) in Port Moresby yesterday.
While extending his deepest sympathies and condolences on behalf of the people of Enga to the people of Australia, Sir Peter said the money was their contribution to their Australian friends in their time of need.
“This is our contribution to help our friends in Australia to fight the fire and rebuild their lost homes and habitats,” Sir Pater said.
“Enga has a close relationship with the people of Australia and we are happy to make this small contribution to help them in these difficult times.”
Sir Peter said, Enga has benefited from the long relationship with Australia.
NCDC city manager Bernard Kipit presented a cheque for K20,000 and IMHC marketing manager Abraham Wangdui presented a cheque for K10,000 to the chairman of the Australia Bush Fire Appeal committee Paul Nerau.
