THE Enga Council of Women has been criticised for failing to give the late Scholla Warai Kakas the respect she deserved when her body arrived home for burial.

Wabag businesswoman, Wendy Kilanda said there was no official representative from the provincial council of women at her burial.

She said by telephone from Wabag that no council executive was seen at Kaiap village where Kakas was buried on Friday.

“Engan women are raising concern that the local council of women had miserably failed to pay respect to our leader,” she said.

“How can someone who has been respected highly by the international community be given this kind of treatment while other provinces in country paid their last respects to this national heroine?”

She said the provincial office representing women was not there to receive the body when it arrived in Wabag.

“This is unacceptable,” she said. “On behalf of the concerned women of the province, we demand an apology from the executives of the council immediately as this is a bad sign for the empowerment and growth of women in the province.

“Our late leader contributed so much to the province. She sacrificed her life for the women of this province and the nation.”
