SPORTSMEN and women have been urged to be self-sufficient instead of calling for support from their provincial and national politicians.
Treasury and Finance Minister Patrick Pruaitch and fellow colleague Forest Minister and Vanimo-Green River MP Belden Namah told the participants not to rely too much on political support.
Pruaitch, who is also the Aitape-Lumi MP, made the comment when commending Team Sandaun for their outstanding performance during the 4th PNG Games.
He was speaking at function held at the Roundhouse on Sunday.
Team Sandaun won two golds, eight silvers and five bronzes to finish 14th out of the 20 teams that participated.
Both ministers allocated more than K500,000 to support the team participate at the games in Port Moresby over the seven days.
They said they were willing to assist if Team Sandaun or any representative teams took the initiative to organise and secure sponsorship for their respective tournaments.
They commended Sandaun provincial government for taking the lead in initiating the Team Sandaun’s participation at the games.
