PS Rutz rout Maclarens
PS RUTZ opened the men’s premier division with a 6-1 win over Maclarens in round two of the Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) competition at the Bisini Soccer Ground on Saturday.
Rutz jumped to an early lead nine minutes in with Ezekiel Sibiya finding the back of the net and his teammate, Kasaka Welley, added a second before Sibiya found room for his second for a 3-0 halftime lead.
A struggling Maclarens side, with National Soccer League veteran Tau Winnie, in their line-up found little luck in attack with Rutz controlling their passes from the midfield down to their forwards.
Raynald Anison grabbed a double in the second half with midfielder Stanley Tumun adding one to see them in front 6-0.
Maclarens, with the inclusion of Junior Vai in attack, applied more pressure on the Rutz defence with Nigel Vali bagging the last goal of the match.
Meanwhile, new PMSA general secretary George Bukoya told The National that the competition was slowly picking up after a long layoff due to the coronavirus (Covid-19).
“It’s a catch-up year for us, given the recent situation we had with the Covid-19 transmission and the eventual disruption of matches,” he said.
