A PUBLIC servant in East Sepik is expected to appear in court on Tuesday accused of misappropriation and abuse of office, police say.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said Dong Manuk, 62, from Forok village in the Turubu local level government, allegedly misappropriated K30,000 of provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funds.
He said an investigation by police revealed that the accused allegedly used funds for purposes not intended by the provincial government.
“It was alleged that a BSP cheque for K30,000 drawn from East Sepik operating account had been allegedly misappropriated,” Supt Beli said.
“This cheque was made for fuel for the cocoa project but the amount was not used as intended and was believed to have been diverted.” He said Manuk was charged with one count of misappropriation and one count of abuse of office and would appear in court in Wewak on Tuesday.
Supt Beli said Manuk was released on K2,000 police bail this week.
