Forty-seven public servants graduated on Friday with certificates in leadership and governance from the Institute of Public Administration in Port Moresby.
The SP Brewery-sponsored scholarship programme partnership with PNGIPA involved men and women from different departments.
They were trained in leadership and governance, financial and fiscal management, human resource management and industrial relationships. Institute of Public Administration director Angori Wewerang said the training worked like a pyramid, with these first graduates at the baseline, and would advance with other training modules.
SP Brewery chairman Bart Philemon said: “This initiative is sponsored by SP Brewery under the public-private sector partnership.
“We are learning a lot with the first intake, and for the future we are focused on capacity building on public services.
“This is a five-year programme.
“We are now tying the nuts and bolts for the foundation before bearing its fruit.”
Minister for Public Service Elias Kapavore said: “Governance and leadership ethics must be sanctioned throughout the systems of all government which is very important.
“I am very happy for this partnership programme, as I see that it will bring strong leadership in the public service. I believe that in the future, a lot of support will come from the private sector.”
