MINISTER for Public Service Sir Puka Temu has announced the public service in the country will witness major changes in offices and the service system.
While thanking Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his cabinet for creating a viable action plan, Sir Puka briefly outlined possible changes he would drive in the public service structure.
He stressed creating a separate body to drive accountability and transparency, welfare of public servants, improving of the systems of service and anti-corruption initiatives.
He said the public service had been becoming slack and corrupt and that government plans and initiatives were not realised in past years.
“Directives will be given and public servants must work. There is no time for sitting around,” Sir Puka said.
“The Action Plan by the government needs to be implemented at a cost of realising development for our people.
“Accountability and transparency will be driven in all departments and sectors that public servants can serve their purpose.”
He reminded MPs as leaders to first reassess themselves their purpose of being an elected leader in parliament.
He said as senior public servants they must have the political will to make a difference in their terms as leaders.
Sir Puka said the senior servants must and not compromise for rewards other than serving the people.
