Pukpuks share rugby tips with students at POMIS
The National, Monday 27th Febuary 2012
TWO PNG Pukpuks representative players Christopher Kakah and Billy Torea who recently returned from the international rugby academy (IRA) in Palmerstone North, New Zealand shared their experience with the Port Moresby International School (POMIS) rugby squad last Wednesday.
The duo, after three weeks of training sponsored by Digicel at the international rugby academy in Palmerstone North, were scheduled to conduct motivational school talks in schools in and around the National Capital District which has kicked off on Wednesday at the Port Moresby International School.
Speaking on behalf of Digicel, the company’s public relations manager Jayleen Morris said: “We are proud of Chris and Billy’s performance at IRA as we have been monitoring their progress during the course of their training and we are delighted to welcome them back in PNG.
“Last Wednesday’s event was basically aimed at giving Chris and Billy the opportunity to share their experience with others and that includes rugby squads from our schools in NCD. We are grateful to the POMIS management for allowing them to share what they have learnt.”
POMIS head of physical education, Andrew Briggs, also commended Digicel for the initiative in developing the sport in PNG and was grateful for the encouragement and training tips given to his students.
Digicel is very passionate about supporting sports in PNG and have involved Kakah and Torea in their “motivational skul tok” programme where the boys can be able to share experience and knowledge of the sport to young, aspiring rugby union players.
