Puma Energy staff working ‘remotely’, says Tokome

PUMA Energy PNG Ltd continue to run its business remotely, through its other sites and working from home, according to country general manager and director Hulala Tokome.
He confirmed with The National that an employee had tested positive for Covid-19 and was quarantining at home.
Tokome said the company started its work-from-home measures a couple of weeks ago following the recent spike in the Covid-19 cases particularly, within the National Capital District.
He noted that the individual was part of the arrangement of working from home and had not been in the office for eight days.
“Our employee had come in contact while working from home with a person who had tested positive for the Covid–19,” Tokome said.
“Our office operations are not affected, however as a matter of being safe, we have commenced our business continuity plans and are continuing to run the business remotely through our other sites and particularly from homes.
“Close contact employees have been identified and have been tested which have all returned negative results.
“We remain in close contact with the employee providing support and assistance where we can.”
Tokome said the company had stepped up work precautions, it had also stopped business travel and moved to working from home where possible.
“In the office we continue to observe strict protocols for social distancing with no face-to-face meetings, wearing masks, taking temperatures, observing personal hygiene, keeping offices sanitised and tracking people on site,” he said.
“We have reminded everybody to stay home if they are feeling unwell.”
He urged the people to observe and enforce the niupela pasin measures.
“There has been a significant increase in the number of deaths as well in PNG which also is a concerning measure to gauge the impact Covid is having on our people,” Tokome said.
He said staff had returned to work on Thursday afternoon.
Puma Energy has 14 terminals across the country, 11 aviation facilities and 100 retail sites throughout the country.
