Prime Minister Peter O’Neill yesterday opened four new oil storage tanks at Puma Energy’s Napanapa Refinery outside Port Moresby.

Two tanks are for crude storage and the other two are for storage of refined products.

This is part of Puma’s expansion programme where it is envisaging to turn Papua New Guinea into a petroleum hub in the wider Pacific Region.

“This is really our first visit to the refinery,” O’Neill said.

“I know that other (former) Government were here but we are extremely pleased to be here on this historic occasion, where we are now going to open the addition to the refinery.

“The expansion programme at Napanapa here is just the beginning.

“I know Puma and its executives and its parent company will continue to work closely with the government so that we can be able to provide energy security for our nation.”
