Put aside political differences

Letters

I call on all 10 Morobe MPs to put aside political differences and work together to split Morobe into East and West provinces.
Create four more new open electorates before the next general election.
The open electorates that will be affected are Menyamya, Bulolo, Finschhafen and Lae.
These open electorates, according to latest national census updates, are overpopulated.
They are over and above the constitutional requirements of one MP representing 40,000 people.
There is an urgent need for creations of new provinces and open electorates in order to politically and adminstratively serve the people well.
For example, Waria, Wau Rural and Wau Urban LLGs must split from Bulolo and have their own Open electorate.
Bulolo Open remains and caters for Bulolo Urban, Watut, Mumeng and Buang LLGs.
Menyamya Open electorate has to be split into two.
Aseki must have its own open electorate, leaving Menyamya Open on its own.
New electoral boundaries must be done and created to accommodate the new Lae East and Lae West Open electorates.
The current Huon Gulf electorate must be abolished.
Finschhafen Open electorate must be split into two between the mountain and coastal people.
According to latest population figures, these four electorates of Menyamya, Bulolo, Lae and Finschhafen have over 80,000 people.
This is way beyond the constitutional requirements of 40,000 per electorate.
The idea of splitting Morobe into two and creation of four more electorates is politically good, so that Morobeans will be fairly represented in Parliament and be served well in terms of service delivery and development.
My proposal is that the new West Morobe province cater for six open electorates of Menyamya, Aseki, Bulolo, Wau, Lae West and Markham with its provincial headquarter be located near Bayune Lutheran High School in Mumeng LLG, Bulolo electorate.
The new East Morobe province will be made up of six electorates of Lae East, Nawaeb, Kabwum, Finschhafen 1 (mountain) and 2 (coastal) and Tewai-Siassi open electorates with its headquarter at Gagidu in Finschhafen.
The current Lae open electorate seat is to remain as a Morobe’s capital seat.
Its open MP must treated as governor, the same as National Capital District.
