Put in place policies for SME

Letters

THIS SME promotion talks will progress nowhere unless we as a nation put in place protective legislations and polices.
The SME laws should be designed in a way where it should clearly state which SME businesses belong to locals and what type of business should be operated by the foreigners.
The SME legislations and polices should put in place a clear demarcation on the type of businesses that should be owned and run by the locals and the type of businesses foreign investors can invest in.
At the moment, I am really upset to see foreign investors owning and running businesses such as kai bars, PMVs, canteens/retail shops, buying cash crops such as copra, coffee, cocoa at local areas which is supposed to be owned and ran by our local people.
How can we promote SME while our markets has already been taken up?
How can we promote SME in our country when our locals cannot be able to compete with the current foreign SME players in the market?
Also given the capacity, finance and management skills of our locals and so forth.
Again, as a nation, we really need a comprehensive and all around approach through SME legislations and polices that can promote our local SME sector in our country.
Just an observation.

  • Policies are already there, yet people in authority at those respective areas don’t visit those business and tell them to shut, WHY?? Obviously, because their purse is thick with bribery monies. Shame on them, shame on their family and their children for not doing what is right for their children and country.
