PAPUA New Guinea’s flag carrier Air Niugini on Monday welcomed its second brand-new Dash 8-Q400 Next Generation aircraft, expanding the fleet to 20 units.
Chief executive Wasantha Kumarasiri said the arrival of this plane and the first one last July marked “a new era” in Air Niugini’s daily operations.
He said the two Q400 Next Generation aircraft are brand-new aircraft, the first of its type operating in Papua New Guinea.
“The purchase of both aircraft was funded by PNG Sustainable Development Fund and we thank its board and management for their confidence in Air Niugini.
“This now brings almost 100% increase in the aircraft fleet since January 2006,” Kumarasiri said.
“This year alone, Air Niugini delivered three aircraft that included two Q400 Next Generation and a Boeing 767-300ER to improve our services.
“With additional aircraft in the fleet, we are confident this will provide operational flexibility for both our passenger and cargo movements,” he said.
