TRAVELLERS from Australia who wish to travel on direct flights from Cairns to Rabaul must have visas organised before they depart Cairns, Air Niugini says.
With the stage set for direct flights from Tokua in East New Britain, to Cairns, Air Niugini has informed passengers planning to travel on the direct flight that visas are not available on arrival in Rabaul at this stage.
Air Niugini has recommended that travellers originating from Australia must organise visas before leaving Cairns.
Australian travellers are advised to contact their nearest PNG consulate or the PNG High Commission in Canberra to organise their visa.
The airline company will start the direct flights on Oct 28.
It will enable people in the New Guinea Islands to travel directly overseas from Rabaul.
The initiative has received positive feedbacks from people in the region since it was announced last week.
The airline management has called on business houses and the people to help make the airline’s newest product commercially viable.
The initiative is expected to boost the tourism sector in the region.
