PX says no missing engines and parts

NATIONAL flag carrier Air Niugini has dismissed claims that plane engines and parts have gone missing.
Chief executive officer Wasantha Kumarasiri said the allegations were self-serving. “They were aimed at insulting my management team.”
He was responding to allegations raised by national employees and published in a newspaper yesterday.
Kumarasiri said Air Niugini had evidence to prove that all the allegations were false.
“Those making the allegations only provided the purchase orders and other documents to suit themselves.
“They do not have the delivery documents and customs’ clearance. We have them all here to prove that the engines and parts have been brought back into the country.”
Kumarasiri also produced evidence to counter the allegations levelled against the airline, including taking the newspaper on a tour of its 6-Mile facilities to physically see some of the items contained in the four allegations.
He said the two engines quoted in the report were now used on P2-ANC and 608 flights. The latter was then sold in exchange for F100 parts which had arrived in the country.
He said the auxiliary power unit sold was unserviceable and time-expired. It sold for a good price of US$40,000.
“I have presented a response with all evidence to Public Enterprises Minister Sir Mekere Morauta, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and the chief ombudsman.”
