Quality infrastructure project vital for prosperity: Aust minister

AUSTRALIAN minister for international development and the Pacific senator Zed Seselja says strategic and high-quality infrastructure projects are vital for economic prosperity.
Speaking in Port Moresby yesterday, he said his government’s investment was a demonstration of their support for PNG’s ports.
Yesterday, a K26 million (A$10 million) security project grant was launched by Seselja and State Enterprise Minister William Duma at Motukea.
The work will include perimeter fencing and solar security lighting at all ports, as well as installation of CCTV and vessel-tracking systems at Motukea and Lae, PNG’s two international gateway ports.
“The fences have been an immediate need at all ports and PNG Ports are thankful to the Australian government for this grant,” Duma said.
This event follows a recent signing of an understanding between the Government, Australian government and the PNG Ports Corporation on maritime infrastructure cooperation.
“The Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) is already working closely with PNG Ports on preparing proposals for a potential loan to support up to AU$400 million (K1.1 billion) in critical ports upgrades across PNG,” Seselja said.
