THE National Capital District Commission (NCDC) is committed to improving early childhood education and its teaching and learning environment, Governor Powes Parkop says.
Parkop said this in support of Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy’s call for children to have excess to quality education and resources.
He made the statement at the launch of the transfer of NCD education services from the Education Department to NCDC yesterday.
He said the transfer gave the responsibility and obligation to NCDC to provide quality education to students and they would do their best.
“Yopyyopy and secretary Dr Uke Kombra and Minister for Higher Education Nick Kuman must know that NCDC is ready to improve early childhood education,” he said.
“This includes all the elementary schools and pre-schools, and also the teaching and learning in early childhood.
“The responsibility is for NCDC to provide the best learning and teaching environment and quality education.”
Yopyyopy said the transfer was based on the organic law that stated the importance of provincial education divisions in all provinces.
“All provincial education divisions should directly come under the provincial government,” he said.
“The transfer of powers and functions includes the core administrative functions and powers from NCDES to NCDC.”
He said the Government had also committed to invest heavily in education with the aim of ensuring all children were in school.
Parkop said despite the challenges, NCDC was ready to provide universal and quality education to the children.
“Our goal was clear we want all the children to reach grade 12.”
