Quality of roads impresses minister
The National, Tuesday July 14th, 2015
FOREIGN Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato was impressed with the quality of new roads in his Wapenamanda electorate in Enga.
Pato was accompanied by Works Secretary David Wereh and senior officials on a chartered flight to the district on Monday.
Pato was in the district for five hours to inspect roads currently under construction.
The group went to Tsak Valley and then Lower Lai and then inspected ring roads and other projects in Wapenamanda town.
Pato told people in town that all government services were channelled to the district.
“You must be at home and take part in the development that is taking place,” he said.
He urged the people to remain in the district and benefit from projects being delivered by the Government.
“Service will come and you must take part, see and do things that will benefit you.
“This is one of the major developments that is taking place.”
Pato urged his people to allow contractors to complete the roads without interruption. David Kandiki, a local youth at Tsak, praised Pato and contractor Kaystar Constructions for good quality roads.
Kandiki said his people saw PMV Coaster buses and other vehicles in the area for the first time in about 40 years.
Managing director of Kaystar Constructions, Paul Kurai said work was almost complete.
The 16.8km road from Muku Murumanda to Tale Bridge was funded by the Government through the Works Department.
Wereh commended the people for embracing vital changes in their communities.
“Road is a vital service that will connect the people,” he said.
“This is your privilege and you must be proud that you have a better road in place.”
He said the Government’s intention was to see disadvantaged communities in rural areas enjoy a better quality of life and that was through a better road network.
He estimated that the Government had injected projects worth between K80 and K90 million in the Wapenamanda electorate.
