Quarantine protocols must be followed, says Manning

NATIONAL pandemic Controller David Manning has again advised quarantine facilities and those who should be staying there for 14 days to follow rules and protocols.
Manning, who is also the police commission, said the designated facilities should report to the Government any breach of the rules.
“The hotels no longer designated facilities shall not accept persons to be quarantined,” Manning said in a statement.
“The hotel management should immediately inform any person booked to be quarantined at their hotel that they may no longer be quarantined there from June 2.
“They should be referred to the National Operations Centre.”
Police, prison officers and hotel security officers will conduct a 24-hour surveillance to ensure that quarantine protocol is maintained.
He said quarantined people should not leave their rooms before the expiry of the 14 days.
Manning said if a person displayed Covid-19 symptoms, the hotel must contact the health services and the Covid-19 team at the National Operations Centre.
“Non-compliance with emergency directive by a non-PNG citizen or non-PNG resident may result in the immediate deportation of the offender with the cost to be borne by that person.
“Legal actions will also be taken against them,” Manning said.
Failure to comply with the directive could result in a fine not exceeding K50,000 for individuals, and K500,000 for corporations.
