Queen’s honours for notable citizens

 MORE than a hundred Papua New Guineans received honours as part of Queen’s Birthday recognition at Government House yesterday.

They were presented the awards by Speaker Theo Zurenouc, the Acting Governor-General, in a colourful investiture.

The Royal PNG Constabulary contributed with a royal salute.

Recipients included politicians, heads of civil and military divisions, individuals from professions in law, business, education, religion, disciplinary forces and those who offered services to the community.

Andrew Sean Trawen, the Electoral Commissioner, was knighted for his distinguished public service.

“I am grateful to the Government and the Queen for recognising me for my services,” Sir Andrew said.

Sir Kostas George Constantinou (OBE) was recognised for service to the community, sport and business, particularly in the area of tourism and hospitality, the banking sector and the promotion of regional investment relations.

The other recipient of the Most Excellent Order of British Empire to be invested with the Insignia of a Knight Commander of Civil Division (KBE) was Sir Peter Ipatas for his distinguished service to the community through significant contribution to the economic and social development, particularly in health, education and vocational training in Enga as governor and MP.

Among those accorded were Environment and Conservation Minister John Pundari, Fisheries Minister Mao Zeming, Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Michael Malabag.
