Questions raised over PMIZ project

 USINO-Bundi MP Anton Yagama yesterday questioned in Parliament why there is no work done at the proposed Pacific Maritime Industrial Zone in Madang.

But Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru said as far as his ministry was concerned, all work relating to the industrial zone and the Madang Marine Park had been done. 

He added that any further work would have to be approved by the Treasury Department.

It is understood that the Madang Marine Park project was funded by the Exim Bank in China. 

According to Maru, Treasury is yet to write to Exim Bank to release the funding for the project.

“I asked the Minister for Treasury Don Polye last September to write to the China Exim Bank for the release of the funding but I haven’t got any response from the Treasurer yet,” he said.

“The project remains idle and the Treasury Ministry is now responsible for the actual implementation.”
