MILNE Bay police have charged a man for allegedly stealing K41,144 from a local businessman in 2008.

Provincial police commander Lincoln Gerari said the 44-year-old man from Wamira village, Rabaraba, was charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretence.

He said the man on Dec 3, 2008, told a Peter Kelep in Port Moresby that he was trying to sell his home in Tokarara.

Kelep thinking it was true gave the man K41,144 as part payment of the property.

But the man allegedly took the money and sold the property to another person before fleeing to Milne Bay.

Kelep recently heard that the man was operating in the province and launched a complaint this month.

"We responded by going into Wamira village on Monday and arresting the suspect," Gerari said.

Gerari said another woman from East New Britain had called his office and lodged a similar complaint alleging that the same man had lied to her and took her money.

Similar complaints have been lodged with the police.
