Rabaul Cowboys prove worthy at Lae 9s

PARTICIPATING in the Lae Snax Nines for the first time and making the final was a bonus for the Rabaul district team Page Park Cowboys.
Coach Lennon Bibiken said his team had performed beyond expectation and proved that they had the quality of players to compete with the best in the country.
Bibiken said their involvement in the Snax 9s at the weekend was part of a process that had started earlier in the year. The team had played in Gazelle 9s, Rabaul 9s, Newcrest 9s (Lihir) NGI Super 9s, Agmark 9s and now the Lae Snax 9s.
“The Lae Snax 9s was probably the toughest one out of the ones we competed in this year,” Bibiken said.
Bibiken said playing in six events meant they had had to raise their own funds through sponsorship and family as well as activities.
Bibiken said most of the team played rugby union but because there were not many opportunities in that code they had decided to focus on 9s.
“We came to Lae and gave it our best and I’m proud of the biys for making the final and giving the home side a good challenge,” Bibiken.
