The Rabaul District Development Authority Board has taken the initiative, through the Rabaul district administration, to market students from its only secondary school to education institutions in the province.

The district board made the decision following reports that a lot of Grade 12 students from the Malaguna Technical Secondary School had scored GPA points from 2.5 and above in national examinations but  they were not selected by higher learning institutions in the country.

According to the Rabaul district education coordinator Caspar Ruga, a team of officials from the school and district education officers visited most tertiary institutions with the list of more than 40 students for possible enrolment this year.

Ruga said that the team visited St Peter Channel College at Ulapia, Vunapope School of Nursing, Kabaleo, and Gaulim Teachers’ College and University of Natural Resources and Environment and met with authorities to discuss the possibility of the students being given places.

Some of the students were accepted for enrolment and have been notified to register.

“This is not the first time the administration has tried to assist Grade 12 students who have scored high marks but were not selected to higher learning institutions in the country,” Ruga said.
