Rabaul Queen insured: Broker

THE mv Rabaul Queen passenger ferry was insured when it sank in the waters of Finschhafen, Morobe on Feb 2, 2012, the trial in Kokopo heard yesterday.
Insurance broker Aon Risk Services (PNG) Ltd, confirmed issuing a placing slip for the mv Rabaul Queen in 2011 indicating that it was insured.
Aon Risk Services manager Harry Laka was the second witness to testify yesterday at the Kokopo National Court.
The trial heard that Laka, who has been in the insurance industry all his working life, joined Aon in 2007 where he has been the manager insurance since then.
In 2011, Aon was the broker for the entire fleet of ships belonging to Rabaul Shipping.
Services provided included broker services. As for mv Rabaul Queen, its insurance company was Pacific Assurance.
State prosecutor Paul Tusais produced in court as an exhibit the placing slip, a document issued by Aon containing a summary of the terms of a reinsurance transaction.
Laka confirmed he had issued the placing slip for the vessel in 2011.
