Radio Madang’s Maus bilong Garamut has stopped broadcasting in the evening and switched its broadcast programme from 5am-1pm.
The daytime broadcast hours fitted into a plan by the National Broadcasting Corporation to have all its provincial stations broadcast longer during both day and night.
Radio Madang director Makalai Bell said that in the case of Madang, the change to daytime hours allowed staff members to get home safely before dark.
Radio Madang switches to NBC’s national service after 1pm, allowing listeners to get the news and other programmes.
Bell announced the change when the station hosted communication arts students from the Divine Word University on Friday.
The students were shown around the station and learnt the role Radio Madang played as a provincial service.
The students were accompanied by lecturer Dr Kevin Pamba.
